DHL
We asked Template to spruce up an internal meeting space at our Marks and Spencers distribution depot in Long Eaton, Derbyshire. By their very nature warehouses are pretty uninspiring places and we were looking for something that would add a little bit of fun and colour to the place.
As it’s an area that we use for employee briefings it made sense to ask the staff for ideas on what they’d like to see there. The use of caricatures was an excellent suggestion and we passed this brief onto Ian Rawlings, Template’s Creative Director, who came on site with designer Paul Canny. I was impressed by the fact that they were genuinely interested in what we do and how we do it.
Volunteers then put themselves forward to be caricatured and Template worked their magic. The resulting montage shows the progression from a DHL distribution centre to a typical M&S store with selected staff completing the production line between the two.
Not only does it look great, it’s practical too. Each of the portraits is a stand alone piece so if any staff leave we can simply replace the one image.
This simple yet imaginative solution is a real talking point around the depot. I think that Ian and Paul’s enthusiasm for their work has come out in the finished illustration. Template are a design company that really gets under the skin of a job and we’re already looking at working with them again on another project. I’m sure that it’s going to be as enjoyable as this one.
